Right at the point of the Panama Pacific convention (San Francisco 1915) the craze for Hawaiian music really took off and hit the mainland like a giant swell at Peahi (JAWS). The hollow neck koa lap Hawaiian has become the iconic sound of that era with makers such as Hilo (Oscar Schmidt) and guys like Hermann Weissenborn and Christopher Knutsen leading the way.
So, while this ain't no Hermann Weissenborn, it's a cool vintage acoustic lap slide guitar in excellent structural condition.
The sound is deeper and more mellow than your typical Weissenborn, but still plenty loud. The body is 15 inches wide and 3 1/4 inches deep, and the neck is hollow all the way up to the base of the headstock.
And typical for this era's hollow neck guitars the Hilo is 100% Koa. It is made circa mid 20s though most of these guitars including all 3 makers above didn't serialize their guitars but the Lion's share are from the 20s and early 30s. The owner at one time squiggled "Santa Ana Cowboy" on the guitar but it is almost not even visible.
So all in all - here we have a great Hawaiian Hollow Neck for you.
